Still More Q & A
Can you make me a site where I can sell things online?
I could, but there are others who specialize in that. To do it properly involves a merchant account and ongoing monthly fees. It's outside of my goal to get self-employed and small biz owners online quickly with a smart-looking website that's easy to navigate.
If you'd like a website that handles orders, I'll be happy to give you some pointers and get you headed in the right direction.
Will my website always be available online??
24 hours per day/seven days a week/365 days a year is a goal, not a promise of web hosting companies.
There may be occasional brief down times for maintenance, electrical outages, or unforeseen problems. These occur so seldom that, for our purposes, we're always there for our customers.
What's a domain name?
It's your website address. The something.com that people type in to find your website.
It's registered to you for a yearly fee, usually in the $10 to $20 range, with discounts for multiple year registrations.
What is a web hosting account?
Your website has to be loaded into a computer system that is tied into the Internet in a way that will share it with the world. Not only that, it has to be always on, powered up day and night, year after year.
This takes electricity and expensive electronic equipment so hosting companies usually charge a monthly or annual fee to keep your website online.
You need both a domain name and a hosting account. I'll set you up with both.
